Cleaning Hygiene Operative

This apprenticeship is for individuals who carry out specialist cleaning tasks to maintain safe, hygienic environments across healthcare, commercial, and public settings.

Cleaning Hygiene Operatives work across a wide range of environments where high standards of cleanliness are essential for health, safety, and wellbeing. They may work independently or as part of a team, often outside standard working hours, and report to a cleaning supervisor or service leader.

In healthcare settings—such as hospitals, care homes, GP or dental surgeries, and prison healthcare facilities—they help prevent the spread of infection by ensuring rigorous hygiene and sanitation.

In commercial and public environments—such as hotels, offices, public transport, shopping centres, schools, and factories—they maintain cleanliness in high-traffic areas to minimise the spread of bacteria and viruses.

Cleaning Hygiene Operatives play a vital role in infection control and public safety by using specialised techniques and maintaining consistent hygiene standards in line with organisational procedures and regulations.
